The Rhymatist delivers the modern day nursery rhyme. Understanding that listening to music stimulates more parts of the brain than speech, our educators have long used music and rhyme to teach everything from the alphabet and numbers in preschool to college anatomy classes. Research has shown us that kids who actively engage in music with rhyme from a young age: • Do better in reading and math when they start school • Are better able to focus and control their bodies • Play better with others and have higher self-esteem Kids musical tastes have evolved significantly in the past decade, thanks to the explosion of Kindie Rock. The Rhymatist embraces the research that has proven that rap is a powerful educational tool and combines that with tight beats and flowing lyrics that resonate with today’s music savvy preschoolers. The Rhymatist enjoyed a very successful mainstream rap career, honing his skills with the likes of Ice T and Ludacris. While it was a rarity for a white guy to share the stage with such icons, he wanted to utilize his skills differently from his peers. He shifted his focus to embrace rap similarly to how he came to rhyming. The Rhymatist initially embraced hip-hop as a way to keep up at school. He used rap to teach himself curriculum, as well as make his Mom laugh and write his Grandma poetry. Noticing the very limited use of rap as the powerful tool that he knew it to be, The Rhymatist harnessed his polished skills to deliver a new kind of music for kids. This album is not a kids entrée into hip-hop. It is a new fresh sound that embraces the research that proves music coupled with rhyme increases acquisition and retention of new words and concepts (Wolfe and Horn, 1993; Wallace, 1994). Various additional studies (Cheong-Clinch 2006, 1999; Standley & Hughes 1997; Bygrave 1995; Wolfe & Hom 1993) support the direct correlation between kids who are engaged in music and rhyme and enhanced early literacy, development, reading, language and social skills as well as attentiveness in a new school environment.
